Abstract

[Class 75 (iii)] The sliding lid 2 is opened by a spring 14 when released from a spring-pressed catch 4 for exposing the wick 26 and the frictionwheel 11 is simultaneously operated as by means of a rack 12 on the lid in mesh with a pinion 13, connected through a ratchet coupling or the like with the wheel so that the latter is not rotated on closing the lid. As shown, the catch 4 engages a transverse bar 18 in the lid. In a modification, a pivoted spring- pressed catch in the lid is disengaged from a stop on the casing by means of a slidable spring-pressed member. The flame-spring 21 is fixed to a plug 22 secured by a bayonet fastening. The plug 23 for the filling opening is provided with a container 24 for spare flints and closes a small vent 31.
