Abstract

673,999. Pyrophoric lighters. BOOCOCK, R. Oct. 13, 1950 [Oct. 14, 1949], No. 26423/49. Class 75(iii) In a pyrophoric lighter comprising a pivotal wick cap 4 which drives the flint wheel 5 when it is swung away from the wick by the actuation of a vertically movable plunger 6, the plunger 6 is connected to the cap 4 by means of lever and link mechanism arranged beneath the upper wall of the lighter casing 1. The plunger 6 is moved downwards by pressing a button 8 against the action of a spring 7 contained in a bore in the lighter body 2, which may be of plastic material and is surrounded by the casing 1 which is of metal. The button 8 is connected by a link 11 to the angular point of a bell crank lever 9 supported on a pivot 10 between the walls of the casing 1 and connected by a link 12 to a point on the bearing hub 4a of the cap 4, said point being disposed, when the cap 4 is in the closed position, on a radial line at about 30 degrees to a vertical line passing through the pivotal axis of the cap and at the side of the latter towards the plunger 6. so that a relatively small movement of the button 8 is sufficient to swing the cap into the open position shown in Fig: 2, according to the Provisional Specification the press button may be connected to the inner end of the cap by a single link. or the button may have an extension adapted to abut against a projection on the cap.
