Abstract

615,165. Frictional lighters. LOWENTHAL, B. July 30, 1946, No. 22714. [Class 75 (iii)] On depressing an actuating member 34 of a frictional lighter a spring 36, secured between the actuating member 34 and slidable collar 35 on a rod 31, is stressed until a trip member 44 disengages a lever 27 from a spring latch member 40, whereupon the spring 36 rotates the lever 27 about its pivot 28 and a link 30 connected to the lever 27 rotates the cover 21 into its open position. The rod 31, secured to the actuating member 34, passes through a hole in the lever 27 and slides in a fixed tube 32 against the action of a return spring 38. A collar 37 fixed to the rod 31 returns the lever 27 to its initial position when the actuating member 34 is released. The cover 21, friction wheel 14 and ratchet wheel 23 rotate on a pivot pin 15. A pawl 24 engaging the ratchet wheel 23, and a wick snuffer are slidably mounted on a plain portion of a screw 25 secured to the cover 21, a spring 26 urging both towards the head of the screw 25.
