613,587. Opening canisters by tearing. ZEILER PACKUNGEN AKT-GES. June 19, 1946, No. 18421. Convention date, Feb. 2. [Class 66] A rip-wire or cord 7 for tearing off the top of a cardboard canister 4 is wound in a groove 3 in the side of the well of an inside, sheet-metal end-closure 1, one end of the cord 7 projecting through a slot 6 and the other passing outwardly beneath the flange 2 so that it is fastened by folding the latter. The canister 4 may be scored at 5 opposite the groove 3 to facilitate opening by pulling a tab, &c., 8. After opening, the closure 1 is replaced as a push-in lid.
