[Classes 18, 66, and 94 (ii)] Paper &c. containers for milk or other liquid, powder, &c., are formed by folding a blank and are closed at the mouth by bringing together two opposite side portions to form a tapered closure having at least one sloping side, with intervening triangular-shaped portions lying flush with the edges of such sloping side or sides, the material in excess of that required for the intervening triangular portions being formed into one or more pleats disposed inside or outside the sloping side or sides. Fig. 5 shows a construction formed with a single sloping side a<2> having the pleated portions of the side walls disposed beneath it, the blank from which this container is produced being shown in Fig. 1. The pleatforming parts may be of thinner paper than the remainder of the blank, a lining of such paper being provided, exposed only at these portions. A metallic lining may also be employed. The sloping side a<2> or the sides instead of being of rectangular form as shown may be of upwardly-tapering form, a construction which would be achieved in the present instance by the folding of the mouth portion along the lines 1<1>.. 4<1> and 181 instead of the lines 1 .. and 18. Fig. 10 shows a construction with two sloping sides which are provided with tabs 30 for engagement with a metal closure member 31, 32, Fig. 11. When the containers are of waxed paper the mouth may be sealed by applying heat to the parts. The bottom of the container may be afforded by the parts a<1> .. d<1> folded about line 6 or by the same parts folded about lines 6 and 8 to form a ledge 10 to support an inserted bottom piece 12, 13, Fig. 3. The bottom may alternatively be provided where indicated by the lines 15 or 20, at the base of the sloping side or sides. The body portions of the containers may also be of circular or other curved cross-sectional form between the lines 6 or 8 and 15 or 20, the score lines 1 .. 4 being then omitted in this portion of the blank. The body portions may also be of tapered form to facilitate nesting.
