470,316. Cartons, pots, &c. GEE, L. F. Dec. 7, 1936, No. 33475. [Classes 18 and 66] Containers or receptacles such as pots or cartons, particularly pots which are hermetically sealed after filling and mainly composed of paper, papier machÚ, cardboard, &c. are constructed so that the sealed end may be severed and used as a loose cover, by forming the bodies of laminations a, a' waterproofed by means of wax &c. with longitudinal overlapped joints of which the outer lamination has a ripstrip k, the closure g being held only by a curled edge h of this lamination so that when a tab k<1> is pulled to sever the end, the end structure may seat on the inner lamination and form a removable lid. In another form a blank or blanks is or are rolled or wound to form the laminations, the rip-strip terminating at the lapped joint so that the lid remains hinged to the body. In either form the upper edge of the inner lamination may be turned over inwardly. The pots may be cylindrical and may have additional laminations provided by additional tubular wall layers or by lengthening the blank which is rolled. The closure may be in the form of metallic end caps.
