525,825. Spirally wound containers; lids; sealing labels. CARTNER, J., and JOHNSON, A. Feb. 28, 1939, No. 6537. [Classes 18 and 125 (iii)] A container is made by spirally winding strip material such as paper or card, the outer layer 1 being applied without adhesive for at least part of the length of the container and being severed at 3 to form a ring 1a to which a metal end 4 is seamed so as to form a removable lid. The remaining layers may also be severed to form a ring 2a which forms part of the lid. A label may cover the line of severance and this may be seamed in with the lid joint and may have a tearing strip to facilitate opening. Various seamed joints between the metal ends and the tubular body are described.
