This invention relates to llabels, wrappers or covers slrch as are used on cans, pasteboards, containers, packages, or other objects for advertising the packing company, and for identifying 5 the contents of the can, pasteboard, container, package, or other object, and the primary object of this invention is to provide a label, wrapper or cover so that part of the same can be readily removed from about the can, pasteboard, container, package, or other object, thereby making it easier to open the same.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein:

Figure 1 is an elevational view of a can having my label applied thereto.

Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure l, and illustrating the manner of removing the label as comprehended by the present invention.

Figure 3 is a plan view of an end portion of a label embodying the features of the present invention.

With reference more in detail to the drawing,

it will be seen that my improved label, wrapper or cover consists essentially in the provision of a sheet 5 o a paper or other suitable ilexible material that on one face thereof is adapted to have printed or otherwise formed thereon suitable advertising matter and indicia. The sheet 5 is of suitable length and width and is adapted to be wrapped about a conventional type of can, pasteboard, container, package, or other object, 6 providing as it were an endless sleeve extending about the periphery of the can, pasteboard, container, package or other object. The ends of the label, wrapper or cover strip 5 are arranged in overlapping relation and are adhesively secured together as suggested at `7.

In the furtherance of the invention, the strip 5 is provided with a series of perforations 8 extending substantially from one edge to the opposite edge of the label strip. In the embodiment of the invention shown, the perforations 8 extend adjacent one longitudinal edge of the strip from one end edge to the other end edge of the strip. In addition to the perforations thread, twine, wire or other material might be used whereby there can be a complete severance of Y the label, wrapper or cover.

Such provides for a clean cutting or severance. The means for clean cutting hereinbefore described shall be conveniently and suitably arranged on any part or portion of the can, pasteboard, container, package, or other object.

The provision of the perforations 8 and the application of the thread to the label, wrapper or cover may of course be formed in a single operation as by stitching, attaching, inserting or pasting the thread to the label 5 in the manner well known in the art.

VAs is somewhat conventional, the label, Wrapper or cover strip 5 on its inner face, is provided with a suitable adhesive 7 for adhesively securing the label, wrapper or cover to the can, pasteboard, container, package, or other object to prevent casual displacement of the label, wrapper or cover relative to the can, pasteboard, container, package or other object.

It will be also noted, that one end of the thread 9 extends beyond the corresponding end of the label strip 5, and when the label, wrapper or cover is applied to a can, pasteboard, container, package, or other object, said end of the thread 9 may be concealed between the overlapping ends of the strip 5 as suggested-in Figure 1, or remain free or reverse as found desirable.

In the drawing I have shown the label, Wrapper or cover as applied to a can, pasteboard, container, package or other object 6, the lid 6a of which is provided with a ila'nge that extends about the periphery of the can, pasteboard, container, package or other object, and the upper portion of the label, wrapper or cover 5 is'adhesively applied to the outer face of the flange of the top 6a. The row of perforations 8 will thus be located adjacent the lower edge of the ange of the top 6a so that, to remove the top 6a, the free end of the thread, twine, wire or other ma.- terial 9 is worked out from between the overlapping ends of the strip 5 and then by pulling on the thread, wire, twine or other material used for such purpose in the manner thought apparent, the upper edge portion of the strip 5 will be separated from the strip thus freeing the top 6a and the top 6a may be then removed from the can, pasteboard, container, package or other object.

Instead of the thread, twine, wire or other material 9, there may be substituted a tab or the like secured to the outermost end of the overlapping ends of the strip 5 to facilitate the tearing of the strip along its line of perforations.

Even though I have herein shown and described the preferred embodiment o1' the invention, it is to be understood that the same is susceptible of further changes, modications and improvements coming within the scope o1' the appended claim.
