Abstract

611,223. Endless-belt conveyers. MAVOR & COULSON, Ltd., and THOMSON, J. Oct. 12, 1945, No. 26792. [Class 78 (i)] In an endless belt conveyer having driving gear operating on the return run of the belt, a deflection which varies with the load in a portion of the belt on one side of said driving means is caused to maintain an amplified tensioning deflection in the belt on the other side of the driving means. As shown, the conveying run 4, Fig. 1, is driven in the direction A by a drum 12 on the return run. Loops 21, 24, Fig. 2, are formed by drums 14, 15, slidably mounted and connected by pairs of ropes 29, 30 to the smaller and larger sections 25, 26 respectively of a differential pulley-wheel. An increased load on the conveying run shortens the loop 21 and produces an amplified displacement of the drum 15 which lengthens the loop 24 to maintain the tension in that portion of the belt.
