872,294. Endless belt conveyers. MAVOR & COULSON Ltd. Nov. 27, 1957 [Dec. 1, 1956], No. 36805/56. Class 78 (1). In an endless belt conveyer the belt 3 is driven by a pulley 2 around which the lower run of the belt, after leaving the head pulley 1, is wrapped by snub pulleys 4, 5 the former of which is a longitudinally movable tensioning pulley. The grip of the belt on pulley 2 is increased by a short endless belt 10 travelling over pulleys 6, 7, 8, 9, the pulley 6 of which is carried by a longitudinally movable shaft 6A which is coupled to the shaft 4A of the belttensioning pulley 4 through a motion-decreasing device. The arrangement is such that upon increase of tension in the conveyer belt 3 the resulting movement of the pulley 4 towards the head pulley 1 is communicated through the device to cause a smaller movement of the pulley 6 away from the head pulley 1 to increase the tension in the belt 10. The motiondecreasing device consists of two pairs of pulleys 13, 14 connected by gearing 17, 18. A pair of ropes 15 extend from the pulleys 13 to the shaft 4A and a pair of ropes 16 extend from the pulleys 14 to the shaft 6A. The shaft 4A is supported in slots 20 to limit the amount of its longitudinal movement.
