Abstract

618,019. Belt gearing. STEPHENS, SMITH, & CO., Ltd., LISTER, G. C. B., and WALSH, T. E. Oct. 14, 1946, No. 30607. [Class 80 (i)] [Also in Group XXX] An endless belt is automatically maintained in its correct central or aligned position by mounting a roller or pulley round which the belt passes, on bearings carried at one end of a pair of arms which are pivotally mounted intermediate their ends on fixed pivots and are adapted to engage at their other ends with the sides of the belt so that, should the belt tend to move to one side, the adjacent arm is moved about its pivot and the roller or pulley is advanced on that side and retracted on the other side and consequently tightens the belt on that side and slackens it on the other, causing the belt to assume its correct central position. Fig. 2 shows the application to an endless belt conveyer wherein the conveyer roller 2'is supported in bearings 3, 4 formed on levers 5, 6 which are pivotally mounted at 7, 8 on a fixed frame 9 and carry rollers 10, 11 in engagement with the lower run of the belt 1. The levers are connected together by a link 12.
