Abstract
912,498. Conveyers. RAPIDS-STANDARD CO. Inc. March 11, 1959, No. 8470/59. Class 78 (1). Articles are propelled by an endless belt 11 which is supported by rollers 21 and by head and tail pulleys 12 mounted on shafts 13. The articles are also supported on rollers 20. Drive from a detachable motor unit 17 to one of the shafts 13 is by means of a coupling 16. Two couplings of this type are used in a coupler 36 for connecting two conveyer units together, Figs. 5, 6. The coupler also includes sprockets 39 and chain 41. The belt 11 is provided with a wedgeshaped portion 24 for engagement with a groove 26 of the head and tail pulleys 12 and is adjustably tensioned by an idler roller device, Fig. 3 (not shown). By withdrawing the motor unit, the conveyer may be gravity operated, a fluid braking device then being necessary, Figs. 8, 9 (not shown). In place of the rollers 20, there may be provided fixed anti-friction projections 61 or rib members 63, Figs. 10, 11, and the belt 11 may be supported on ribs 70, Fig. 12. The belt may be of multi-ply canvas with a smooth or ribbed or embossed surface of rubber. Specifications 912,499 and 912,500 are referred to.
