937,352. Apparatus for producing intermittent movement of conveyer bands. JOHN DALE Ltd. Jan. 6, 1960 [Jan. 10, 1959], No. 969/59. Class 78 (1). An endless band or chain driven continuously has a portion of a run formed into a bight by guide rollers at least one of which is oscillated to cause alternate deceleration and acceleration of a portion of the band or chain at the bight. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, chain 10 passes over sprocket wheels 11-14 of which wheels 12, 13 are carried by an arm 15 pivoted at 16 and oscillated as indicated by 17 such that articles at the point A are caused to become stationary during movement of the wheels 12, 13 opposite to the direction of movement of the chain. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2, wheels 12, 13 are mounted on fixed axes and wheels 11, 14 are carried by parallel linkage 18-20 oscillated by an oscillating arm 21 pivoted to the linkage at 23. The links 18, 19 may pivot about points beyond the wheels 12, 13 instead of about their axes, as shown.
