Abstract

796,470. Endless-chain conveyers. MEYER MANUFACTURING CO., G. J. Sept. 3, 1956, No. 26853/56. Class 78 (1). Articles, such as bottles B<SP>1</SP>, B<SP>2</SP>, B<SP>3</SP>, Fig. 1, formed with a small integral boss S known as a " spotting projection," are turned as they pass from a conveyer 20 to a conveyer 32 over a deadplate 33 by engagement with belts 61, 75 so that they all face in the same direction. The conveyers 32, 20 preferably consist of a series of thin metal plates connected by a chain. A driving sprocket 42 and an idler sprocket 43 rotating about vertical axes are mounted at one side of the conveyers 20, 32 and have a belt 61 trained round them. The outer surface of this belt is smooth, but the inner surface has teeth 62 to engage the sprockets. A belt 75 having teeth 76 on its outer surface is trained around pulleys 66, 70 and a driving sprocket 64 on the other side of the conveyers. The sprocket 43 is carried by a stub shaft 44 mounted in the end of a bar 45 which is secured adjustably to the top of a swivel block 48. This block can turn about a stud 49 which extends through an elongated slot 49a, Fig. 8, in the framework. A coil spring 51 contained in a bore in the block forces a slidable plug 52 into contact with a stop 53. A spring 60, Fig. 1, urges the bar and block to turn counterclockwise about the stud 49. This movement is limited by a stop 55. The run P<SP>2</SP> of the belt 75 is maintained in a curve by a fixed guide 78. As a bottle moves to the right in Fig. 1, its contact with the lower part of the guide 78 causes it to rotate until the projection S enters a space between adjacent teeth 76 on the belt 75. Thereafter the two belts advance it over the bedplate on to the conveyer 32.
