Class 78 (1) In an endless belt conveyer having a self-tensioning loop take-up system formed on its return run by pulleys which are spaced apart, one loopforming pulley is movable by a positive adjustment device in either direction lengthwise of the conveyer to vary the length of the loop system as required by changes in length of the conveyer and another loop - forming pulley is movable lengthwise of the conveyer under a continuously applied load to maintain the lesser tension of the conveyer belt at a predetermined value despite changes in the greater tension. As shown the conveyer belt 12 is led from a pulley 14 at the discharge end of the conveyer on to the driving pulley 17 and is then formed into a loop 12a by pulleys 19, 20 mounted on blocks 21, 22 slidable in guideways 23, 24 respectively. The blocks 21 are attached to a rope 25 leading to a winch 26 whereby the length of the loop 12a may be varied as required by changes in length of the conveyer system and each block 22 is attached to one end of a rope 27 passing over pairs of pulleys 29, 30, 31, 32 to form a loop 27a on which is suspended a heavy body 28 thereby applying a continuous load to the loop system. In another embodiment, wherein the working run of the belt conveys substantially downhill the loop system is formed between the, pulley 14 at the discharging end of the conveyer and the driving pulley 17.
