619,075. Driving-gear for endless-belt conveyers. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd., and TAYLOR, R. A. Oct. 9, 1946, No. 30115. [Class 78 (i)] A drive for a conveyer belt includes a plurality of driving pulleys each separately driven by means such as a hydraulic coupling which transmits a constant torque over a range of speed including the normal operating speed of the conveyer. As shown, the lower run of the belt 1 passes from the head pulley 4, around a driving pulley 7, around tensioning pulleys 10 and 11, and around a further driving pulley 8 to the tail pulley 3. Each driving pulley 7, 8 is driven through a constant torque hydraulic coupling and gearing from a squirrelcage electric motor. The pulleys 10, 11 are slidably mounted on frames 12, 13 on which they may be adjusted by screw-threaded means 20, 21 to adjust the tension of the belt. The driving pulley 7 is driven with a greater torque than the driving pulley 8. In a further construction, the driving pulleys 7 and 8 engage the side of the belt which is lowermost during the upper run 2 of the belt.
