Abstract

583,376. Reversing gearing. EDWARDS, Ltd., C., and LAMBOURNE, A. July 5, 1944, No. 12846. [Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Group XXX] The winding drum 56 of a jib crane (see Group XXX) is driven by a sprocket 62 engaging an endless chain 64 driven by a sprocket 63 on a shaft 43 which is normally connected through belt gearing 42A, 44, 41 to a shaft 39 driven through belt belt gearing from the driving shaft 37 of the power unit 2. The drive to the drum 56 may be interrupted by adjusting a jockey-pulley 45 so as to reduce the tension in the belt 44. To obtain a reverse drive to the drum 56, the tension in the belt 44 is slackened and a friction wheel 54 driven by a belt 48 from the shaft 39, is swung to engage the belt 44 and drive the pulley 42A in a reverse direction.
