Abstract

626,520. Endless conveyers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and ROBSON, R. June 28, 1947, No. 17105. [Class 78 (i)] A reversible drive for an endless conveyer comprises separate driving means for each direction of drive and a device for taking up slack disposed between the two driving means so that in both directions of movement the belt or the like is fed by a driving means to the take-up device and then to the inoperative driving means. As shown each driving means 5, 6 comprises two driven pulleys 8 and 9 or 10 and 11 driven through clutches and gearing from a reversible electric motor so that either may idle. The clutches preferably permit of coupling in one direction only. Between the driving means 5, 6 is a tensioning device 30 comprising a pair of guide pulleys 31, 32 and a weighted pulley 33 riding in a bight 34 in the belt 1, the bearings 35 of the pulley 33 sliding in guides 37. The driving means and tensioning device may be mounted in a single frame and operate on the return run of the belt.
