In a disconnectible belt drive wherein a driving pulley 10 is connected to a driven pulley 12 by V or flat belts 11, the slack run of the belts is engaged by a spring-loaded jockey pulley 13 carrying a bracket 26 embracing the belt, and the driving run of the belts is supported against sagging by transverse bolts in a fixed guide 18, the bracket 26 and guide 18 cooperating so that when the pulley 13 is swung about axis X by operating a rod 16 the belt 18 is moved radially clear of the pulley 10 to disconnect the drive. An adjustably fixed guide 20 extending around part of the driven pulley 12 is preferably provided for the slack run of the belt.
