Abstract

641,854. Endless conveyer belts. CABLE BELT, Ltd. Oct. 8, 1947, Nos. 13446/48 and 13447/48. [Divided out of 641,817] Class 78 (i)] In a conveyer which comprises a continuous flexible conveying member driven and supported by the cables of two parallel cable circuits, the conveying member is supported by means of flexible cross-straps extending between the cables, the cross-straps having cable engaging heads formed with notches to engage the cables. A conveyer belt as shown in Fig. 1, comprising an upper run 16 and a lower run 17, has flexible steel crossstraps 21 provided at the ends with doublenotched heads 23 for engaging with two parallel cable runs 18 and 19 supported at intervals by idler sheaves 25. The belt may be in joined sections or the thickness may be arranged to be uniform throughout. The conveyer belt may be arranged to pass round a drum at the ends of which are sheaves for the cables. The cables describe a loop as described in Specification 641,817, so that the notches on the straps are led out of engagement with the upper run of the cable and then into engagement with the lower run of the cables. Alternatively the heads may engage with the upper cable run only, the heads having a single notch. In another arrangement the belt is led round guide pulleys and the cables pass round pulleys on the lower run so that the belt passes between the cables. In another arrangement the conveyer extends beyond the cables and passes around at least one guide, the extended part being guided by rails.
