Abstract
597,043. Chain and belt tensioning devices. WELLER, J. March 21, 1945, No. 7093. [Class 80(i)] A chain or belt drive comprises a tensioner of the kind described in Specification 5 2 6,4 1 9 characterised by a flexible slipper A which is pressed against the inside of a free length of the chain C, and which passes round one or more of the chain sprockets B. The slipper may be laminated as at H, Fig. 3, or have a hydraulic dashpot, as described in Specification 484,128, to check oscillation in the chain, and may be slotted where it passes round a sprocket to allow the teeth to project or attached to a collar J, Fig. 3, mounted on the boss of the sprocket. The slipper may be rigidly supported in the sheath F, Fig. 1, mounted on the anchor pins D on the driving side of the chain, or supported by a single anchor pin D, Fig. 3. The slipper may be in the form of an endless band A, Fig. 5, or formed with free ends L.
