[Class 78 (i)] A belt conveyer for carrying a load around a bend substantially in the plane of the conveyer comprises an endless band 1, which is made in the form of an annulus of a cone and is arranged to run over tapered end rollers 2, 3 disposed so that their axes radiate from the centre of the bend, means being provided for biassing the band outwardly so as to maintain its formation and tautness. The upper and lower flights are supported by a slideway carried by frame members and are held outwardly by rollers which nip the outer edge of the flight and impart a drive to it. The drive to the rollers 2, 3 is transmitted through a duplex chain to a sprocket-wheel on the horizontal shaft of roller 2. This shaft is connected by bevel gearing to a vertical shaft carrying a sprocket which drives the roller 3 through chain gearing 25, 26, 27, 28. A second sprocket on the vertical shaft is connected by a chain 30 to a wheel on a shaft driving the nearest nipping roller and by chain connection drives other rollers. Each nipping roller unit is adjustable on the bend and comprises a gear-box mounted on frame 12. The driven roller is keyed on the shaft and driven through bevel gearing. The idler rollers 14 are mounted upon a stub shaft carried by a yoke, they are maintained in position by a spring 41. In modifications for heavier loads the band may be supported and driven by other tapered rollers which may be set a little askew. For increased drive the nipping rollers may be faced with rubber, or the material known by the Registered Trade Mark "Mintex," and may be tapered or rounded at the edges.
