Abstract

944,102. Endless conveyers; shoots. BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO. Ltd. March 30, 1960 [April 7, 1959], No.11659/59. Headings B8A and B8S. Granular material fed upwardly between upper and lower conveyer belts 2, 1, is fed into the belts by a shoot 13. Projecting elements 3 of conveyer belting material are secured by a rigid angle 14 and bolts (not shown) to the belt 2. Instead of the plane of the material of the elements 3 being at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the belt 2 as shown in Fig. 1, the element may be made of conveyer belting and secured to the belt 2 as shown in Fig. 5. The element may alternatively be in the form of a single loop (Fig. 4, not shown), or two separate adjacent loops (Fig. 6, not shown). In Fig. 7 the belt 1 is supported by idler rollers 22, 22. The edges of the belt 2 are pressed into engagement with the belt 1 by means of pulleys 23, 23. There is also a central roller 24 bearing on the belt 2. There may be a central roller between the rollers 22, 22 (Fig. 9, not shown). The shoot 13 may be fed by a hopper 28 (Fig. 10), of the kind described in Specification 944,104. Material is fed from the hopper by the action of a rotating drum 29 coupled to the driving pulley of the belt 2. The feed is controlled by a flap 30 counterweighted at 31 and adjustable at 32. The roller 29 may have a surface of rubber formed with serrations or projections. The hopper sides may be lined with rubber. The conveyer may be used to transport frangible materials down an incline.
