Abstract

1426275 Loading material on to conveyer belts HARRISONS & CROSFIELD (ANZ) Ltd 16 April 1973 [17 April 1972] 18200/73 Heading B8A Endless belts 42, 42, on each side of a conveyer belt 32, form skirts to prevent escape of material being loaded on to the belt 32 from a hopper 14. Each belt 42 is formed of transmission-belt backing material having an external covering of two plies 50, 52, of soft rubber. The lower edge of each ply is formed with slits 48, the slits of one ply being staggered in position relative to those of the other ply. The slits 48 assist the edge of the belt to pass around conical flanges 40 of belt-supporting pulleys 30. The return run of each belt 42 is supported by a respective pulley 54. The distance between the pulleys 30 may be altered so as to correct belt tension. The belts 42 may be driven by contact with the main belt 32 and/or by contact with the load, or may be power driven.
