Abstract
587,114. Endless-belt conveyers. MAVOR & COULSON, Ltd., and McCULLOCH, T. Feb. 12, 1944, No. 2656. [Class 78 (i)] Relates . to endless-belt conveyers, particularly for use in mines, wherein the return or non-conveying run B, Fig. 1, is formed into a loop over idler rollers, said loop being adapted to be reduced in size so as to lengthen the conveyer by longitudinal movement of one of the rollers, this roller D applying the necessary tension to the belt and being supported for this purpose in bearings slidably mounted on the conveyer structure and connected by a rope F at each side to a winch E means being provided for adjusting the rope lengths to correct any misalignment of the roller D. According to the invention the roller D is mounted on a frame 1, Fig. 2, which is slidably mounted in the conveyer framework and provided at each side with a pulley 2 over which pass the tensioning ropes F. These are wound on the winch drum 6 at one end and at the other on a compensating drum 4 having two separate winding parts, being wound on this drum in opposite directions. Any misalignment of the roller D is corrected by turning the handwheel 7 to rotate the drum 4 through worm gearing 8 whereby the rope is paid out/on one side and wound in on the other. The drum 4 may comprise two separate drum members. The winch drum 6 is rotated through pinion gearing by a handwheel 5. Specification 330,700, [Class 78 (i)], is referred to.
