Abstract

676,845. Endless belt conveyers. MEAGHER, W. D., and MEAGHER, G. Aug. 11, 1950. No. 19973/50. Class 78 (i). A conveyer of the kind comprising an endless belt which passes under tension around a plurality of rollers mounted in a suitable framework, at least one of such rollers being driven from some source of power, and which is provided with cylindrical rollers, at least one of which has its bearings adapted for relative adjustment upon the framework so that the roller axis can be skewed (i.e. set otherwise than at right angles to the main run of the belt) to counteract any tendency of the belt to"wander" is characterised in that one of the bearings supporting the adjustable roller is adapted to be located upon the said framework by means of two clamping screws which, when slackened, allow the bearing to pivot about one of them. As shown, the belt A passes round rollers B, C mounted at the opposite ends of a frame E, a driving roller H and idlers K, B<SP>1</SP>. Each end of the roller C is supported on the frame E by a plummer-block L whose opposite ends are secured by screws M, N, the screw M engaging a tapped hole in the block L and the screw N being provided with a nut in the form of a hand-wheel O. One of the blocks L is mounted to swivel about the screw M which passes through a hole P in the framework E, the screw N extending through an arcuate slot Q concentric with the hole P. The screws M, N of the second block engage in slots Q<SP>1</SP>, Q2 also concentric with the hole P, their positions in these slots being determined by the skew it is desired to give to the roller C. The roller K which may also be used as an extensioning roller, is mounted in plummer blocks L below the frame E, the screws being reversed to bring the hand wheels O above the frame and engaging in straight slots R. The rollers B, BI have their ends journalled at S in each of two plates T which are pivotally mounted on fixed plates U by clamping screws V engaging tapped holes in the plates U and passing through arcuate slots W in the plates T. The plates T may be moved through an equal angle for the purpose of belt tensioning or through different angles so as to skew the rollers B, B<SP>1</SP>.
