Abstract
890,160. Endless belt conveyers. HAYDEN-NILOS Ltd. July 14, 1960 [April 14, 1959], No. 12544/59. Class 78 (1). In an endless belt conveyer wherein the belt is carried by troughing rollers on a supporting structure, a section of the structure adjacent a point at which the belt receives material is provided with troughing rollers comprising rollers 36 journalled in spindles 37 which are connected between cable lengths 4A, 4B, 5A, 5B. The cable lengths may be formed by four separate cables, by two cables as shown which are looped around sheaves 6A, 6B, 7A, 7B at one end of the section, or by a single cable looped around sheaves at both ends of the section. The ends of the cable or cables are secured to transverse bars 18, 19 mounted on a bar 21 which is connected with the framework of the section by a bolt 27 having adjusting nuts 28 to vary the cable tension. Where more than one cable is used an end of each individual cable may be adjustably mounted in the bars 18, 19 for separate tensioning. The bars 18, 19 and in addition bars 8, 9 carrying the sheaves 6A, 6B, 7A, 7B at the other end of the section are angularly adjustable to vary the heights of the cable lengths 4A, 5A independently with respect to that of the inner cable lengths 4B, 5B. In the case of bars 18, 19 these are pivoted to the bar 21 and each has an arcuate slot 24 by which it can be secured in adjusted position with a bolt 23. A similar arrangement is provided for the bars 8, 9. So that the troughing rollers 36A, 36B, Fig. 8, towards the middle of the section can be adjusted to trough the belt more deeply than those towards the ends of the section, e.g. where the material is fed to the belt by a hopper 63, further adjustment means is provided in the form of a set of bars 38, 39 interconnected at their lower ends by rods 42, 46, respectively, and pivoted to the framework at a point towards their lower ends. The outer ends of the bars 38, 39 engage the outer cable lengths 4A, 5A and are adapted to adjust the heights of the latter independently by manipulation of a shaft 50 which when moved axially can be engaged via pin-and-slot connections 52, 53 and 54, 55 respectively, with either of two threaded sleeves 45, 49 having nuts 44, 48 which are connected respectively to the rods 42, 46 by links 43, 47. By this means one side 66, Fig. 12, of the belt may be raised more than the other, e.g. where the material is fed from a transverse conveyer 67. The spindles 37 of the rollers are secured to the cable lengths by threading their ends and forming in each end a slot 56, Fig. 7, to receive the cable which is secured in place by a washer 58 and two nuts 57, 59. The nuts 59 may include caps 60 to protect the spindle ends.
