Abstract
590,625. Endless - chain conveyers. MELVIN & GILLESPIE, Ltd., and HALL, W. A. Jan. 29, 1945, No. 2208. [Class 78 (i)] A conveyer comprising two endless parallel chains is provided with means for loading each chain which is so arranged that if one chain is stretched more than the other, the tensioning load on the first chain is transferred to the second, thus relieving the first chain of tension and applying a double stretching load to the second chain, thereby automatically preventing misalignment at least by more than a very small amount of any two initially aligned points on the two chains. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1, the bearings 6 of the wheels 1, 2 of the conveyer chains A, B are slidably mounted on bed plates 7 and weights A<1>, B<1> are suspended from chains 8<1>, 8 attached to the bearings. The weights are of equal magnitude and the weight A<1> is arranged in the weight B<1> with gaps of “ inch or ¢ inch between. Rods 11 fastened to the conveyer frame guide the weight B<1> whilst rods 12 attached to the weight Bi maintain the weight A<1> in correct transverse spaced relationship to the weight B<1>. If the stretch of chain A exceeds that of B by an amount greater than the gap 10<1>, the load of both weights is transferred to chain B and the latter chain may now stretch until the top of weight B<1> rests on weight A<1> when the combined load is now transferred to the chain B. In a modification, Fig. 4, the weight B<1> is suspended above the weight A<1> with the gap 10<1> between, and brackets 13 with inturned parts 13<1> are attached to the weight A<1>, the gap between the parts 131 and the top of the weight B<1> being about equal to the gap 10<1>. In a further modification, Fig. 5, both chains 8<1>, 8 are attached to the same weight 14.
