Abstract

600,083. Discharge lamps. HIVAC, Ltd., and BARTON, F. May 31, 1945, No. 13717. [Class 39 (i)] A gaseous discharge tube, particularly for use as an indicator lamp, comprises a frustoconical cathode 6 embracing a substantially coaxial wire or rod anode 9. The anode forms an extension of the leading wire 4, which is sheathed with glass 8 as far as the cathode. A plate 10 located adjacent the cathode forms an auxiliary electrode, and also holds the getter material. This auxiliary electrode in operation may have a separate potential applied to it, or may be connected permanently to'the anode. The inner surface of the cathode is coated with a low work-function material for example a mixture of barium and strontium oxides. The filling is preferably neon with a trace of argon up to 1 per cent, and a convenient pressure is 8 to 10 millimeties of mercury.
