628,013. Metal-vapour discharge apparatus. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. Feb. 25, 1947, No. 5440. Convention date, Feb. 28, 1946. [Class 39 (i)] Into the mercury cathode 2 of an electric discharge device dips a thin-walled quartz tube 7 containing mercury 6 into which extends the capacitative ignition electrode 5; the end of tube 7 is separated from the cathode by a thin protective layer 8 of powdered quartz or hard glass applied by sintering. The anode 3 is also mercury, as is an auxiliary anode 9 connected to the igniter wire 7.
