612,731. Mercury vapour rectifiers. MASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON. April 5, 1946, No. 10636. Convention date, April 6, 1945. [Class 39 (i)] A single anode mercury vapour rectifier has two auxiliary electrodes 6, 4 between the anode 1 and cathode 2; the electrode 6 is in the form of a grid and is fed with alternating current to initiate the main discharge; the other electrode 4 is fed with direct current and functions to maintain an arc between it and the cathode. It has a depending tubular extension 9 serving to screen this arc from the main discharge space, and a flared apertured extension 7 to act as a de-ionization grid.
