Abstract

645,198. Metal-vapour discharge apparatus. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL, Ltd. Dec. 4, 1947, No. 32025. Convention date, Dec. 7, 1946. [Class 39 (i)] One or more small tubular parts sealed into a discharge tube, which contains mercury and is made of glass or similar material, are extended within the envelope in such manner that, when the envelope is rotated, a tubular part when vertical extends beyond, or lies slightly below the level of the displaced mercury, whereby the risk of fracture of the part by the mercury is reduced. In the pre. ferred form, a glass discharge tube comprises mercury electrodes separated by a glass screen 4, ignition electrode 5, auxiliary anode 6 and an exhaust pip 7 suitably extended.
