Abstract
615,851. Discharge lamps. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Aug. 15, 1946, No. 24264. Convention date, Aug. 17, 1945. [Class 39 (i)] A positive column low pressure A.C. discharge lamp has an elongated glass tube 10 coated internally with fluorescent material and containing mercury vapour and argon. The electrodes are contained ir side chambers 11 adjacent the ends of tube 10, anc of sufficient length for the cathode glow 18 and the Faraday dark space 26 tc be wholly contained therein, the main tube being entirely filled by the positive column. The side chambers are coated with opaque material, to obscure the end flicker effect. A modification has an opaque disc 22 across the mouth of the side chamber, further to obscure the flicker, and, as in Specification 566,300, partially suppressing the dark space, thus shortening the side chamber.
