Abstract
596,475. Discharge lamps. SCOPHONY, Ltd., and CHARLOTTE, H. F. July 26,1945, No. 19218. [Class 39 (i)] The envelope of a discharge lamp comprises two electrode containers 15, 16, Fig. 2, and an extension 11 formed by twisting together in the softened condition two glass tubes connected together at one end by an open passage, and at their other ends 13, 14 sealed into the electrode containers. Alternatively, the twisted extension may be formed by a single tube bent back on itself, Fig. 1 (not shown), or by a single tube divided by a sealed-in partition, Fig. 4 (not shown). The electrodes 17, 18 are tubular and are protected from positive ion bombardment by surrounding the ends of the discharge passages 13, 14. The discharge tube may be mounted in a concave reflector 21, the handle of which may be arranged to enclose the parts 13 ... 16. The filling may be a mixture of argon and neon.
