Abstract
490,068. Discharge lamps. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., BEESON, E. J. G., and CHENEY, H. March 11, 1937, No. 7186. [Class 39 (i)] In extra-high pressure gas or vapour discharge lamps, the leads to the electrodes are taken in through the sides of the envelope so that the lamp may be mounted in an outer bulb at right-angles to the axis thereof and may be supported from a stem of normal construction. As shown, the leads to the electrodes 2, 3 are taken into the glass or quartz envelope of the discharge lamp 1 through tubes 4 which are secured to supports 7 sealed into the pinch 8. An auxiliary electrode 5 may have its lead taken in through one of the tubes 4 or a separate tube and is connected to one of the supports 7 through a resistance 9. The neck 10 of the bulb 11 is fused down on to the pinch. The bulb may be exhausted through a tube in the pinch.
