Abstract
506,287. Discharge lamps. SCHALLREUTER, W. L. W. Dec. 11, 1937, No. 34371. [Class 39 (i)] An electric discharge tube comprising a double walled envelope has a locating spider threaded over one or more wires leading from the pinch of the usual foot tube to the adjacent end of the inner envelope, the overall dimensions of the spider being substantially the same as the internal dimensions of the corresponding part of the outer envelope. The spider is preferably closer to the pinch than to the end of the inner envelope. In the form shown, the spider 23 has three arms and the hub portion ia passed over the stiff lead-in wire 16 to the electrode 14 and is located close to the pinch 26. The far end of the envelope 11 carries a stiff wire 18 with a quartz cap 19 which enters an extension 20 of the outer envelope 12. In assembling the lamp, the foot tube 21 and the spider 23 are attached to the inner envelope, which is then inserted in the outer envelope, and while the foot tube is centred by the spider, the joint 22 is made. After seal ing, the stiff wire 25 and the pinch 21 form the main support of the inner tube. The spider may be made of glass, steatite, porcelain, silica, quartz, alumina, or other insulating and heat-resisting material. It may be of other form than that shown and may locate the foot tube asymmetrically.
