435,527. Leading - in conductors for electric incandescent lamps. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Peters, L. R.; 10716, Edgepark Drive, Garfield Heights, Ohio, U.S.A.) Dec. 19, 1933, No. 35745. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, June 25, 1934]. [Class 39 (ii)] Electrical connection to electric lamps or similar devices is made by providing an extension of the bulb with a pocket containing a mass of easily fusible metal in which both the outer end of the leading-in wire and the end of the external conductor are embedded. In a double-ended electric incandescent lamp for series connection, as shown, the lead 13 is sealed into the extension 16 of the bulb. Its outer end extends into the pocket 17 which contains a mass of solder. The end of the external conductor 18, which has a metal collar 20 clamped to the insulation, is embedded in the solder. To ensure a firm joint with the solder the metal collar is crimped at 22. After the joint has been made the rim 23 of the pocket may be drawn down to hold the mass of solder firmly in the pocket 17. The other end of the tube serves for exhaustion and is sealed off by providing the wire 14 with a bead of soft glass 24 which is fused into the end 12 by heating externally, the pocket 17 being similar to that at the other end. In a modification, the leading-in wire is forced to the bottom of the pocket which is half-filled with solder, contact being made by insertion of a pin into the pocket.
