Abstract

753,484. Lamp caps. EDISON SWAN ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. May 27, 1954 [June 17, 1953], No. 16751/53. Class 38 (1). [Also in Group XI] In an incandescent lamp of the kind designed as a plug for detachable insertion in a socket, as in a telephone switchboard, contact strips 3, 3<SP>1</SP>, extending longitudinally on opposite sides of a tubular envelope 1 and secured thereto by an adhesive, serve also for attaching the bulb to a longitudinally - extending base or cap by securing their outer ends 4, 41 within longitudinal grooves provided in the sides of the base and, in order to ensure that the contacts of a socket into which the lamp is inserted cannot be bridged if the lamp is only partially inserted therein, the base is provided with ribs 7, 7<SP>1</SP> extending along both sides of the grooves and protruding laterally beyond the contact extension 4, 4<SP>1</SP>. In the example the ends 5, 51 of the contact extensions 4, 41 are bent around shoulders at the ends of the longitudinal grooves in the base. The leading-in wires 8, 8<SP>1</SP> are attached by soldering to portions of the contact extensions 4, 4<SP>1</SP> which are recessed inwardly below the main contacts 3, 31, so that the longitudinal sliding movement of the lamp is not affected. The ribs 7, 7<SP>1</SP> may be provided with extensions formed with chamfered ends 10 which abut against shoulders on the contacts 3, 3<SP>1</SP> and take up the longitudinal pressure when a bulb is inserted in a socket.
