Abstract

452,854. Making electric incandescent lamps. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Nov. 23, 1934, No. 33733. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, May 27, 1935]. [Class 39 (ii)] A method of sealing a leading-ir wire within the exhausting-tube of an electric lamp, radio tube, or similar device comprises the step: of (a) fusing a bead of plastic material around the leading-in wire, (b) inserting the leading-in wire within the exhausting tube so that the bead is located therein (c) evacuating the bulb through the tube and (d) heating the tube adjacent to the bead to fuse the tube and bead together. The Figure shows a double-ended electric incandescent lamp wilh a leading-in wire 19 sealed into one end 23, a leading-in wire 20 located within the exhausting tube 24 at the other end being surrounded by a bead of glass 22 The leading-in wires and glass bead have substantially the same coefficient of expansion as the bulb 21, the melting point of the bead, however, being less than that of the tube. Fires are directed upon the part of the exhausting tube adjacent to the bead 22 to seal the tube and bead together while the lamp is still closed off by the exhausting mechanism.
