Abstract
439,927. Discharge apparatus. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. April 16, 1935, No. 11758. Convention date, April 19, 1934. [Class 39 (i)] [See also Group XI] A method of making stems for tipless glass envelopes for thermionic valves &c. consists in assembling a stem-tube 14 with an exhausttube 15 closed at one end within it and leading- in wires 10 disposed between the tubes ; fusing together portions of the walls of the stem and exhaust-tubes to enclose portions of the leading-in wires, and delivering air-pressure into the exhaust tube to prevent the collapse of, and to blow an aperture through, the walls of the chamber 30 comprising the merged portions of the two tubes. The leading-in wires are supported in any desired spaced arrangement in openings in a block 12 upon which the tubes are also disposed ; flames are applied at 17, Fig. 3, and air-pressure is supplied to the tube 15 by a nozzle 18. The aperture 19 may be in the side or end walls of the chamber 30, its position being determined by the intensity of the heat applied to any portion thereof. Airpressure is also supplied at 19<1> to round out the joint 20<1>. The exhaust-tube may originally have an enlarged end 16, Fig. 1. Specification 147,293, [Class 39 (ii)], is referred to.
