Abstract
465,870. Discharge apparatus. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Dec. 14, 1936, No. 34299. Convention date, Dec. 16, 1935. [Class 39 (i)] Relates to electric gaseous discharge tubes particularly lamps, operating at high temperatures and consists in the provision of means for preventing uneven cooling without enclosing the tubes in outer jackets. As shown a mercury vapour discharge lamp 1 is connected to the cap 12 by a tubular heat-insulating member 10 which functions to prevent the cooling of the corresponding end of the tube and forms a housing for the leads. The member 10 fits over a reduced part of the lamp and is secured thereto by a heatresisting cement 11 such as a mixture of asbestos, aluminium sulphate and zirconium silicate. A similar or other cement 13 may be used to attach the cap 12. The lamp has electrodes 5, 6 which may be of the kind described in Specification 446,860, fed by leads 3, 4, the lead 4 extending along one side of the lamp in a sleeve 7. A tungsten &c. wire 8 is connected to the lead 4 near the electrode 6 and is fused to the envelope at the pip 9 for the purpose of supporting the lead and also maintaining the temperature of this end of the envelope. An auxiliary starting electrode 2 is .connected through atubular resistance 15 to the lead 4.
