Abstract
347,684. Discharge apparatus. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Wayringer, H. A. ; 10, Frank Street, Schenectady, New York, U.S.A.) Jan. 28, 1930, No. 2957. Convention date, Jan. 28, 1929. [Class 39 (i).] Glow-discharge tubes, such as lamps containing neon, mercury vapour, or the like, are provided with a sinuous or spiral single-walled discharge passage 5, Fig. 1, between the cathode chamber 1 and the anode chamber 2 ; in a lamp the passage 5 forms an illuminating chamber. In one construction, the passage 5 is formed by a spiral partition 16, Fig. 2, united to side-plates 13, 14 and to a side-wall 15 of fused quartz or silica. Fig. 3 shows another construction in which a labyrinth passage is formed by flat partition plates 18, 19 secured to flat enclosing walls 17, the conduits 20, 21 leading to the electrode chambers (not illustrated).
