371,372. Discharge lamps. BEAUFORT, J. M. E. DE, 4, Rue Auber, Paris, and LEDERER, A., Hermesvilla, Vienna. Jan. 20, 1931, No. 1919. Convention date, Feb. 22, 1930. [Class 39 (i),] A lamp of the kind claimed in Specification 364,088 con tains mercury vapour to gether with the rare gas and the pressure and other con. stants are so chosen that the resulting illumination con sists of a core of red light surrounded by an envelope of blue light which produces a white light effect. The rare gas filling may consist of neon and helium with or without argon. The Figure shows a lamp containing two electrodes comprising nickel tubes b coated with an electron-emitting substance. A tungsten filament passes through each tube. The gas filling may comprise from 55 per cent to 99 per cent neon and from 45 per cent to 1 per cent helium and the mercury is introduced in the form of a compound d which is decomposed when the lamp is started. Ultraviolet radiation is also produced and may be emitted by making the bulb a of suitable material. Specifications 5589/11, [Class 39 (i), Electric lamps, Arc &c.], and 367,351 are also referred to.
