Abstract

381,703. Discharge lamps. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin, Sept. 25, 1931, No. 26809. Convention date, Sept. 25, 1930. [Class 39 (i).] A vapour or gas-filled lamp is provided with a constriction, the length of which in a direction at right-angles to the direction of the discharge therethrough is considerably greater than the width thereof, the direction of observation to obtain the maximum intensity of illumination at the constriction being oblique to and preferably at right-angles to the discharge therein. The constriction may be formed by segmentshaped or curved metallic or insulating members 10, 11, Figs. 2, 3 and 7, or by constricting or thickening the glass or quartz tube. In a modification, an intense line of light is formed by the discharge passing through a slitted partition 15, Fig. 13. Mercury or directly- or indirectly-heated incandescent electrodes may be used. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states also that the tube is fitted with a slitted partition to give a point or a line source of light and is provided at one end with two mercury electrodes. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
