360,446. Discharge lamps. CLAUDE NEON LIGHTS, Inc., 41, East 42nd Street, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Beck, L. L. ; 27, Stonleigh Park, Westfield, New Jersey, U.S.A.) June 5, 1930, No. 17434. Convention date, June 26, 1929. [Class 39 (i).] Starting of positivecolumn tubes is facilitated by the provision of a hot or potassium cathode 6, a vapour or gas filling comprising one or more of the gases argon, krypton, and xenon, and external electrodes 3, 4 which may be connected to the internal electrodes or to a separate current source. The electrodes 3, 4 may be spaced as shown in Fig. 2, or located on opposite sides of the tube. A glass having a high di-electric constant increases the starting effect. The gas pressure may be 1-10 mm., and the quantity of additional gas is such that the characteristic colour of the main filling is not altered, e.g. one-half of 1 per cent of argon is added to a neon filling. Specification 360,825, [Group XII], is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 154,199, 236,155, and 304,423, [all in Class 39 (i), Electric lamps, Are &c.].
