Abstract

641,581. Cathodes. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL, Ltd. June 21, 1948, No. 16626. Convention date, Nov. 26, 1947. [Class 39 (i)] A discharge tube cathode comprises a supply of alkaline - earth compounds enclosed in a porous sintered refractory metal, e.g. tungsten, molybdenum, tantalum, hafnium or niobium. It may be operated at 1200‹ C. with a continuous loading of 1 amp./cm.<SP>2</SP> or impulses of 450 amps./cm.<SP>2</SP> and is suitable for use in projection cathode-ray tubes, magnetrons, &c. A thin-walled cap 1 of sintered tungsten, filled with bariumstrontium carbonate 2, is mounted in a molybdenum body 4. A heater 6 is housed behind the partition 5. Alternatively the surface cathode may be cylindrical, Fig. 3 (not shown).
