743,849. Cold-cathode tubes. TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET L. M. ERICSSON. Dec. 8, 1952 [Dec. 8, 1951], No. 31115/52. Drawings to Specification. Class 39 (1). The de-ionizing time of a cold-cathode glow discharge tube having two or more electrodes is reduced by providing a conductive coating on the outside of the tube envelope or a screen closely surrounding the envelope, the coating or screen wholly or partly covering the envelope and being connected directly to the cathode or being arranged for connection to a source of potential which is constant in relation to the cathode potential and by providing the tube with a filling consisting of a mixture of at least one rare gas and at least one non-rare gas. A table is given showing the de-ionizing times obtained with and without a coating for tubes having a filling of Ar, Ar + 10 per cent H 2 and Ne + 1 per cent Ar + 10 per cent H 2 at pressures varying from 6.5 to 51 mm. of Hg. Reference is made to the prior art of adding H 2 or Ar and Hg in small quantities to Ne and He in dim-glow-tubes to lower the ignition voltage. Specification 639,827 is referred to.
