Abstract
581,210. Paper bags. WINGFOOT CORPORATION. May 11, 1944, No. 8997. Convention date, Dec. 24, 1943. [Class 94 (ii)] A multiple - wall, square - bottom bag has an inner ply of heat - sealable material, and an outer ply of paper or other material which is stripped from the former ply at the upper and lower edges 6, 7 of the sides 3, 4 of the bag where the inner plies are pressed together to seal the bag. The sides of the bag are formed with pleats such as 13, 14 which straighten out as the bag is fully opened from that shown in Fig. 3 to that in Fig. 4, to form a base upon which the bag will stand. The plies may be spot-welded or united over their entire surfaces. The inner ply may be rubber hydrochloride film. The bag may be opened out by pairs of fingers, in a machine, which grip the bag along the edges 20 of the pleated sides adjacent the seam 7. Some of the fingers press against the bottom of the front and back walls 1, 2, and opposing fingers will push in the bottom of the pleated sides 4 until the bottom edges 13 lie against the flattened portions of the bottom of the side walls. Air may be blown into the bag to distend it.
