Abstract

859,160. Seaming non-metallic sheet materials. PLASTUS S.A. Sept. 30, 1957 [Oct. 2, 1956; Feb. 15, 1957], No. 30479/57. Class 42 (1). [Also in Group XVII] In a method of producing bags, sheaths and the like (see Group XVII), a material or substance adapted to prevent heat sealing is interposed between inwardly-facing surfaces of a folded element forming the collapsible sides of the bag. In one embodiment, V-shaped folded strips 10 of heat-sealable material are fitted between the co-operating edges of sheets 12 which are heatsealed to the strips 10 by heating rollers 13, the opposite faces of the strips 10 being held apart by strips of paper 11 to prevent heat sealing. In a modification, two superposed films 18, Fig. 3, of thermoplastic material are fed between cooperating pairs of heating rollers 17, 19. Sheaths formed by heat sealing two strips 14 of thermoplastic material together are fed between the rollers 17, 19, the inside faces being spaced apart by strips 15, e.g. of paper. The films 18 are thus heat sealed to the sheaths. Instead of the strips 15, the bag-forming machine may be provided with thin blades 20, Fig. 4 (not shown). In another embodiment, Figs. 11 to 13 (not shown), superposed sheets 43 have a single V-shaped member 44 of thermoplastic material fitted between co-operating edges, the member 44 being coated, e.g. with varnish having a silicone base on the inner faces to prevent heat sealing other than along seams 46, 47.
