Abstract

1292079 Making bags DU PONT OF CANADA Ltd 7 Sept 1970 [17 Sept 1969] 42673/70 Heading B5D A bag having a tubular valve fixed in a side seam is made by feeding two webs from rolls 10, 11 under a guide roll 12, past a guide bar 13, through feed rolls 14 to a sealing and cutting device 15, 16 where the tubular valve portion is formed, then feeding the valves, by a conveyer 19, to an applicator roll 18 where they are successively applied to an adhesive edge 20 of a sheet 19, the sheet being subsequently folded to enclose the valves in the side seams. The webs forming the valves may be of nylon, low, medium or high density polyethylene or another polyolefin, the sheet 19 may be paper, cloth or of the same material as the valves mentioned above. The sheet 19 may be thicker at the edge to which the valve is attached and the valve may be normal to the bag edge or at 5 to 10 degrees thereto. The heated knife 15 and backing roll 16 may be replaced by two heated knives and the conveyer 17 may be replaced by a roller conveyer. The adhesive 20 may be of the hot melt or solvent base types.
